In the 1990s David Sox ( 1936-2016) – full name Rev. Harold David Sox - was a visitor guide at Highclere Castle for close on  3 years.

During these years :

It was NO SECRET amongst  the Highclere Castle staff   that one of their number,  the American  guide David  Sox, had written a book about Almina Carnarvon,  the grandmother of the 7^th Earl.

AND

It was NO SECRET amongst the Highclere Castle staff that the David Sox biography of Almina was never published.

MOREOVER

It was NO SECRET amongst Highclere Castle staff  that  David Sox  was later subject to an agreement with the Carnarvons to leave aside the work he did for  his biography of Lady Almina Carnarvon.        

In short- Some Secrets are NO SECRETS at all.

In the publishing world Sox's biography of Almina Carnarvon - or a watered down  version of  it-  was circulated for a time by Sox himself - all part of a plan to wear down the Carnarvons.
